There are a few readers that use playing cards instead of the tarot. I believe that each card has a specific meaning just like a tarot deck.
Answer by kittyikes
It works very similar and it is not unheard of.
There a couple of different ways to read cards. From what I understand, using the standard deck actually is associated with the psychic way in which the reader actually gets the ideas through the cards and comes up with her own meanings for the cards each time it is placed
Where as the tarot cards is a slightly different form of divination in that each card has a general set of meanings and when combined create a personalized prediction for the subject at hand.
I hope this is not confusing and is helpful.

The deck of playing cards is actually based on the tarot deck. It works via the same principle. Hearts are cups (emotions), spades are swords (action communication), diamonds are pentacles (money), clubs are rods (creativity communication)…kings, queens, are the same, and then each number represents the rest, like the major arcana, knights, pages/princess. I haven’t used this in a long, long time, but I do remember that much. You can read up on it. They have books at the Wicca shops, sometimes natural food stores have books like this too.

OK, I read Tarot so I just GOT to answer this question. 😉 Its important, I think, to understand just how card decks developed. A few hundred years ago cards came into being as teaching tools, as art work, as a gaming device, what ever. As cards developed and became more formally structured the deck evolved into a grouping of 78 cards, divided into two sections. That’s how most Tarot decks break down, two sections. These are … The Major Arcana, or major mysteries & The Minor Arcana, or minor mysteries. The Major Arcana are often used by themselves for certain readings, dealing as they do with what’s considered aspects of life pertaining to major Universal principles. For this reason they are often thought of as very powerful. People being what they are, and often as not what they are is superstitious, a few hundred years ago folks were afraid of the Major Arcana. As card games developed they used that portion of the deck that deals with more mundane issues, which portion is the Minor Arcana. It was not as “powerful” and so it was safe to play with. The so called Poker deck actually developed from THAT part of the Tarot. So you see, what you think of as a seperate deck of just plain old playing cards is really a part of the Tarot deck. And there are lots of different types of Tarot decks. Most have two sections totaling 78 cards, but not all. I have one complete Tarot deck that consists of 36 cards. Its about 150 years old. I have another that I “invented” that has 54 cards in it. I have another that has 82. If you know what you’re doing with the cards you can pretty much use any deck. Anyway, all of this is just my opinion based on my own studies and how I work with the cards. I’m sure other readers might disagree with certain points, and that’s OK too. But, for what its worth, maybe this added little bit of info helped. ~ Peace & Blessings ~

Regular playing cards are derived from Tarot cards. So they can be used in a similar fashion.

Cartomancy: Similar to Tarot Card reading only Cartomancy is using a traditional deck of PLAYING cards not Tarot cards.
Answer by Amari De Ja
The cards represent ideas and foci to the reader, which are then interpreted based on where they lay in the pattern that was placed for the querent. Therefore, any set of cards with which the reader is familiar will work for him/her. Many readers will use Tarot because the cards usually have pictures that the querent (person for whom the reading is being done) can also identify with, respond to, and understand at a glance. Some readers are particular about the querent receiving information from them directly, rather than having the querent attempt to read or understand the cards being used, so will use either an eclectic Tarot deck or “regular” playing cards.

If you want my honest opinion, then I’d say you’d be an idiot to believe in the fortune telling. These gypsies who believe they can hand read are just money grabbing scam artists, they know it, and the majority know it.
Answer by wisecrack
No one can accurately foresee your future, don’t believe the tarot reader, they are frauds out to make money out of simple souls.
I predict that you will not be alone forever.
Answer by RoPaScLiSp
You’re just going to let someone determine your future? If you’ve given up on getting into a relationship from just that then yeah, you’ve got no hope. You won’t get anything out of life if you don’t try to.
Answer by Triptonic Maph
How can You let someone else tell about your future? They cant determine it. You are the one who should determine it! Now go out there and make it happen! Go out there , be yourself and treat ur opposite gender with love, kindnessa and respect! No one in this world is born to be forever alone. We are here to be loved by our partners and make babies!
Answer by Bridget
Only you can say; only you can control your future.

Well, let me tell you a true story. A fortune teller told my dad that he will live up to 100 years old, therefore he did not watch his eating habit and was attacked by stroke with diabetes, amputations for 3 times and finally gangrene, then passed away at the age of 1 year before turning 60. Do not seek for trouble but face them with dignity and allow them to flow when they come to us without attachment. Just gratitude and be ourselves always.

city of Bones-
On New Year’s Day, Detective Harry Bosch fields a call that a dog has found a bone–a bone that the dog’s owner, a doctor, feels certain is a human bone.
Bosch investigates, and that chance discovery leads him to a shallow grave in the Hollywood hills, evidence of a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It’s a cold case, but it stirs up Bosch’s memories of his own childhood as an orphan in the city. He can’t let it go. Digging through police reports and hospital records, tracking down street kids and runaways from the 1970s, Bosch finds a family ripped apart by an absence–and a trail, ever more tenuous, into a violent, terrifying world.
As the case takes Bosch deeper into the past, a rookie cop named Julia Brasher brings him alive in the present in a way no one has in years. Bosch has been warned about the trouble that comes with dating a rookie, but no warning could withstand the heat between them–or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a hard turn. A suspect bolts, a cop is shot, and suddenly Bosch’s cold case has all of L.A. in an uproar–and Bosch fighting to keep control in a lawless and brutal showdown.
City of ashes-
Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.
To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

City of Bones
Clary sees a couple of invisible people at a party and the next day she’s out with her best friend simon and sees one of the boys at the cafe (jace) just before she talks to her mom who tells her not to go home. She does and ends up killing a demon. Jace takes her back to the institute where hodge heals her and she meets Isabelle and Alec. She convinces Jace to return to her house where they kill another demon and talk to a woman in the house who knew that her mother was a shadow hunter (the woman is a fortune teller sort of person, whose ‘mother’ was a witch) They go through a portal to Luc’s house where they find Simon and she tells him everything. In the house they witness Luc talking to two men who were responsible for Jace’s fathers death. One of the silent brothers is waiting at the institute and Clary and Jace are brought to the city of bones where the silent brothers try and open her mind and help her remember, and all they get is a name. Magnus Bane. The five of them head to a party at his place where they learn that he cleared Clary’s memories every two years and blocked her abilities, and then Simon drinks a potion and turns into a rat who is kidnapped by a bunch of vampires. Clary and Jace head out to save Simon from a hotel where the vampires live and are saved by a pack of werewolves and fly of the roof on a motorbike. There;s a scene where Jace takes Clary to the greenhouse for lunch and sparks fly, then Clary learns that her mother could hide things in her paintings. They return to her house and go to her neighbours who has a stack of Taro cards painted by clary’s mother and she pulls out the mortal cup. The woman turns into a demon and Simon vanquishes it by breaking the skylight. Hodge turns against them back at the institute and summons Valentine who takes the cup and Jace, and Clary fights Hodge in an alley where she is saved by Luc who is a werewolf. they find Valentines lair and the pack go to fight while Clary and Jace discover that they are siblings and children of valentine, and their mother won’t wake up.
City of Ashes
Starts with a brief scene of Valentine and a warlock summoning a demon which kills the warlock. Then cuts to Cclary whose mother still hasn’t woken up, and Jace who is being sent from home by Alec’s parents. He goes to a bar and picks a fight with a werewolf pack, and is saved by Luc who calls Clary. The three of them go to the instititue and confront alec’s mother who said that the inquistor is coming to talk with jace and she was trying to spare him. When the inquisitor arrives she locks him in the city of bones and that night Valentine kills the silent brothers to get the sword and Clary, Isabelle and Alec go to save him. When they emerge the inquisitor agrees to let Jace stay with Magnus while he recovers. They go to the fairie realm and Clary is supposed to stay because she took fairy food through a trick and to escape she kisses Jace passionately making Simon storm off when they get out of the realm. They’re at the institute when rafeal shows up with an almost dead Simon saying he’ll be a vampire. they bury his dead body and Simon is reborn. At Luc’s house Maya (a werewolf) is attacked by a demon, and then Luc is attacked. They go after the demons and that night Jace goes to visit his father on a boat in the river. The inquisitor shows up the next morning and claims Jace is in cahoots with Valentine and plans to threaten Jace’s life unless valentine returns the Mortal Instruments. Of course, it don’t work, and Jace leaps incredible high out of the magic cage she set up, (Clary discovered a little earlier that she can create new runes, including fearlessness.) At the river Clary draws the rune on Jace and is taken by a demon onto the ship to her father. The boat swarms with shadowhunters and the inquisitor ends up saving Jace’s life after seeing the scar on his shoulder, and he goes into the boat, kills the fear creating demon, and gives Simon his blood to save his life. Clary inscribes a ruin on the boat which makes the boat fall apart, and they learn that Simon is now able to walk in the sunlight.
The book ends with Jace being welcome back in the institute by Alec’s mother and Clary going to the hospital and meeting a girl who knew her mother and says that she knows how to wake Clary’s mother up.
